Jewel Cave National Monument is gearing up for the 2013 summer season with new interpretive displays focused on the thematic areas of Exploration and Discovery, and visitors will experience new ways to learn about the surface and subsurface features of the Monument.
Some of the planned projects may cause travel delays to and from the Monument. Highway 16 will be under construction during the summer months, with traffic limited at times to one-lane situations and the entire parking lot near the visitor center will be replaced during the same time period.
For this reason, as stated above, the Monument will not be accepting advanced ticket reservations in 2013 for the Scenic, Discovery, or Historic Lantern Tours.
The full programming schedule (including cave tours, interpretive patio talks, and guided nature hikes) begins on Sunday, June 9th. Wild Caving and Historic Lantern Tours will be available for interested visitors.
Hours of Operation:
May 25 - June 8, 2013 : Visitor Center Hours - 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM. The first guided cave tour begins at 9:20 AM with the last tour entering the cave at 4:25 PM.
June 9 - August 17, 2013: Visitor Center hours - 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM
August 18 - September 7, 2013: Visitor Center hours - 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM
September 8 - October 6, 2013: Visitor Center hours - 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
October 7 - 20, 2013: Visitor Center hours - 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
October 21, 2013 - April 6, 2014: Visitor Center hours - 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
